Frequently Asked Questions

What are the Capriccio and Suite piano camps?

Capriccio and Suite are short, intensive piano camps for intermediate to advanced adult pianists (ages 18+) at Sonatina Piano Camps in Bennington, Vermont. Capriccio runs 5 days and Suite runs 8 days.

What are the arrival and departure times for Capriccio?

Please arrive on the first day as close to 1:00pm as possible, as camp orientation is scheduled for 3:00pm. On the last day, plan to depart around mid-morning, after a short music gathering following breakfast.

What are the arrival and departure times for Suite?

Participants arrive on the first Sunday afternoon around 4:00pm and depart on the final Sunday morning after breakfast. Sundays are travel days, so no lessons or classes are scheduled.

How many participants attend Capriccio camp?

Capriccio accommodates between 10 and 18 participants, with at least three faculty members taking part.

How many participants attend Suite camp?

Suite accommodates between 12 and 26 participants, with at least four faculty members taking part.

How should I prepare my music for camp?

For Capriccio, bring a couple of pieces you're currently working on, regardless of where you are in the process; faculty may suggest additional repertoire. For Suite, bring one or two pieces to focus on with a partner or faculty collaborator, comfortably prepared to play with another musician. About a month before camp you'll receive a form to share your repertoire and preferences.

What should I bring to camp?

Sonatina provides all bedding, towels, washcloths, and basic toiletries. Bring personal items and enough clothing for the whole program, as there are no on-site laundry facilities (a laundromat is about a five-minute drive away). Dress is casual for the Vermont season, and don't forget your music.

May I stay off-campus or request a single room?

Most attendees stay on campus for the convenience and camaraderie. Single rooms can be requested but not guaranteed. Those who stay off campus arrange and pay for their own lodging, with no reduction in camp fees; we are happy to recommend nearby options.

How do I get to Sonatina in Bennington, Vermont?

The closest major airport is Albany International (Albany, NY), about a 1-hour drive. Bradley International (Hartford, CT) is about 2 hours away and Boston Logan about 3 hours. Bennington is also reachable by Amtrak train to Albany and by bus via Vermont Translines, Greyhound, and Amtrak Thruway connections, with local car services available from Albany.
